WHAT IS SORA?
The Security Officer Registration Act was passed in 2007 and mandated standardized training for all contract security positions in the state of New Jersey. SORA training is a three step process that must be completed within a 30 day period. The three step process includes:
- registration with the New Jersey State Police
- completing 24 hours of instruction with a certified instructor
- fingerprinting.
Government issued identification is required for each step of the process.
SORA REQUIREMENTS
- All SORA applicants must:
Be at least 18 years of age - Possess valid and unexpired photo ID (such as a driver’s license or passport)
- Register for and receive a 30 day temporary certificate of registration as a security officer
- Be fingerprinted by Morpho Trak

The SORA Training course includes:
- NJ Attorney General’s Use of Force Policy
- Fire Safety
- Counterterrorism
- Report Writing
- Cargo theft
- Suspicious letters and packages
- First aid
- Ethics
- De-escalating verbal conflicts
- other relevant topics
WHEN ARE THE SORA CLASSES OFFERED?
SORA training classes are typically offered on a bi-weekly basis (Virtual /Online). Please check the calendar booking system on this page for available course dates.
HOW DO I GET A 30 DAY TEMPORARY CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION AS A SECURITY OFFICER?
These certificates are issued by the state police. CLICK HERE to register and pay for your certificate.

attendees must be on camera for the entire class except for announced break times. classes are monitored by the new jersey state police. if you do not appear on camera you will be removed from the class. there are no refunds for failure to adhere to this requirement.
