Competition is a form of stress inoculation. There is time pressure and everyone is focused on you. One chance to perform each stage, no repeats.
Even if the goal is not to become a world champion or particular rank, there is immense value to be gained. Speed and accuracy are the most important foundational shooting skills. You can always slow down for threat assessments and confirmations when needed, but you cannot access speed that you don’t possess. Trying to perform faster than training threshold quickly becomes spray and pray, which works a hot zero percent of the time.

STRIKER // X // STYLE
We like 2011-style pistols too. Despite the current hype, striker-fired handguns are built for the harshest conditions. They don’t need to be clean or even lubed to run and run well.
Top among them is the Zevtech OZ9 Combat. Calling it a Glock clone is a stretch because it improves on the original in every possible aspect. Replaced the stock grip with an @icarus_precision grip module and tungsten weight kit to create a Black on Black on Black beast. 2lbs 6.5oz after mods.

Got the new @holosunoptics out to the range for a test. As expected, shooting through an optic 30% larger is a great experience. The extra weight (10.4oz for the Max vs 3.9oz for the original) is worth the additional filed of view.

Winter weather is a great time to keep training short and productive. Maybe not quite this short.

Recently took the circa 2012 @lwrci M6 IC Enhanced [piston driven] back to its mostly original form. At one point it was running a typical 15” MLOK rail, 1-10x scope blah blah.
Not everything needs to look like right now today. So, found an old school Magpul AFG, Inforce light, Surefire Pro Comp and the @lead_and_steel Promethean LP-1 red dot completed the classic look.
Piston systems didn’t take over the way we expected, but shooting 6k rounds and still having a pristine clean BCG and components is very convenient.

CRITICAL // ZERO
Not approximate. Not good. A precise zero is the correct standard regardless of chosen distance. This ensures that when a miss occurs it is operator error and not the gun (assuming equipment is working correctly).
For civilians, don’t get it twisted: EDC pistol is primary and rifle is secondary, because civilians do not walk around with rifles immediately accessible. Even bag guns require time and space to deploy. Train accordingly.
